Source: RegistryDate: 2016-04-06
On June 10, 2015, a seminar themed "Opportunities and Challenges of Trademark Holders in the New Top Level Domain Era" sponsored by ".SHANGBIAO" (dot trademark in Chinese) Domain Registry was held at Shangri-La Hotel in Beijing. Domain name experts from China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), China Organizational Name Administration Center (CONAC) and ".SHANGBIAO" Domain Registry discussed and exchanged views about the theme of the seminar with representatives from the intellectual property services industry.
Mr. Jiang Weicang, a domain name expert from CNNIC, briefed the attendants about the development trend of new top level domains, the management policies of government authorities on new top level domains, and the development prospects for the market; he especially encouraged the innovative development model for top level domains just like ".SHANGBIAO" to serve trademark right holders. Mr. Xing Wanquan, from CONAC, introduced the main service models the center provides to governments and public institutions in the new top level domain area, and shared some of its thoughts on and measures for intellectual property protection on the Internet. Mr. Huang Xiongwei, Chairman of ".SHANGBIAO" Domain Registry, shared with people the reason why he applied for the ".SHANGBIAO" top level domain and the development philosophy of ".SHANGBIAO", from the perspective of an insider of both the intellectual property services and the Internet address resources industries.
Then, Wu Yangyi, Operating President of China Region of “.SHANGBIAO” Domain Registry, introduced the development philosophy and key values of the ".SHANGBIAO" top level domain. In his speech, Mr. Wu pointed out, in the "Internet Plus" era, a major concern of many trademark right holders on the Internet is the actual rupture between the network addresses of trademarks and those currently used by right holders. This is both detrimental to the online promotion of brands by trademark right holders, and makes it difficult for netizens and consumers to identify and distinguish whether websites are the official websites of trademarks. To protect the interests of consumers, netizens, businessmen and enterprises, and develop a healthy and sustainable Internet eco-environment, ".SHANGBIAO" with both trademark rights and domain name rights will enable trademarks to have more remarkable performance on the Internet in the Internet Plus era, allow netizens and consumers to search, identify and distinguish commodities and services or real, authentic and obvious network logos of information sources of relevant individuals, enterprises or organizations, enable trademark right holders to use, express, popularize, make public their rights and protect their rights on the World Wide Web, and allow trademark rights to extend and expand online.
In the discussion session, seminar attendants all participated enthusiastically. Representatives from the intellectual property services sector approved of the value and role of ".SHANGBIAO" in highlighting the brands of right holders on the Internet, and made their suggestions on the development and marketing of ".SHANGBIAO".
