Trademark and other IP Rights Protection is of Critical Importance of Startups - Dennis Cai of Dot Trademark Speaks in IFLR Fintech Asia Forum 2016

Startups in financial and technology sector should place great emphasis in protecting their trademark and other intellectual property rights in jurisdictions where they have business presences, Mr. Dennis Cai, President of Policy and Compliance of Dot Trademark TLD Holding Company Limited (“Dot Trademark”) said in a panel session of the IFLR Fintech Asia Forum 2016 on 18 October 2016.
Over 200 delegates from finance and technology sectors gathered together and exchange views on hot topics such as IP, cybersecurity, latest trends in the financial technology and startup sector, company regulations, compliance framework, and so on and so forth.
Dennis Cai, President of Policy and Compliance spoke about IP rights protection in a panel session, commenting that trademark is of high importance in every business and companies will have to pay attention to trademark registration regarding territorial differences and types of trademarks to register. He then addressed the IP registration problem in China - cybersquatting is ubiquitous which causes companies to pay high costs to get their domain names or trademarks back. He subsequently stressed the importance of incorporating brand and trademark protection in the business development plan of companies and they should focus its brand protection strategies in the China market.
